Russell eventually sold the building, and in 2017 Teresa Knox obtained it. The philanthropist recognized the significance of The Church Studio and restored the structure. She then established it as a non-profit music venue and museum. It was also in 2017 that the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of its significance to the American musical landscape.
Fast forward to 2025, Knox, as educator and historic preservationist, is releasing her exciting book, “Sanctuary of Sound” — The Church Studio Story (HK Publishing). The tome brings readers on an immersive journey through the remarkable legacy of one of America’s most storied musical landmarks.
